Gavalont's School Journal

Male, 36 years

Introduction

Hi all, I really liked what I saw for newbies at this website and decided to start my own journal. So I'll be letting everyone know of my new adventure. I was laid off from work in December of 2001. Having worked at the company for 11 years they let me go after 9-11. I knew in my mind I would never return if they decided to call me back. So I started my own business in kites. Soon the business grew but not enough to pay the bills! But I've made a lot of kids happy and adults too with the stunt kites I've flown. So I began to check out the job force and found ads for drivers wanted, etc. When I think back when I was in 4th grade, that question of...."what do you want to be when you grow up?" was asked, and I said, "I want to be a truck driver!" While growing up as a kid, I started driving dad's tractor at age 5 and at 13 had to drive back home pulling a 27 ft Airstream trailer with a Cherokee Chief Jeep. My father's back gave out when we arrived at the RV park and he couldn't do a thing due to pain. So he taught me how to drive on the back dirt roads where we were staying, with me sitting on 3 pillows on the front seat and remember stretching my legs to reach the brake pedal. Well, to make a long story short, I pulled us back to Los Angeles from the high Sierras. I remember driving back when the big trucks passed us. I had to counter-react the steering wheel because the air the trucks were pushing  tended to suck the Airstream trailer in a bit. But I survived and so did dad! I remember giving courtesy flashes to the truck drivers at night to let them in and it was always an awesome sight to me to see a truck go by when your out in the middle of nowhere driving at night.

After about 3 nights of research I call Schneider and talked to the recruiter. I submitted my online application and look forward to a call in a couple of days. Wish me luck in going to training school. I have been studying the CDL manual which I downloaded from the web. Will continue soon.
