To Whom it May Concern;

I am writing this letter as an appeal to you to consider a reduction of the fine amount for a parking ticket I received in October in Foristell, MO.

I must be honest in saying that I was aware that it was a “No Parking” zone.  I had tried to find a parking space in both of the truck stops at that exit, but to no avail.  They were completely full.  There was another area across the street, but it was pitch dark and I couldn’t tell what type of property it was – and I do make it a personal rule, as a solo female over the road driver, not to park in areas such as this.

I have been an over the road driver for just over eight years.  I take pride in conducting myself as a professional.  I feel it is my obligation and duty to drive safely and responsibly.  I have a spotless MVR.  I strive to be the driver that you would feel comfortable having your family beside on the highway.

It was not due to a lack of respect for the law that I chose to park on the ramp for a few minutes.  I do not wish to deny that I did this, nor to deny that I knew I wasn’t supposed to.  I would simply like to appeal to you to lessen the amount of this fine.  I was shocked to see the fine schedule indicated that parking in a “No Parking” area warranted nearly the same fee as if a person went the wrong way down the interstate.

Many states post “No Parking” signs on their ramps but do not enforce them.  This is very, very common.  Unfortunately, many drivers, myself included, have learned that the signs mean nothing.  While this parking ticket seems a black and white issue, it was actually shocking to me because I’ve never known a state that enforces no parking laws on interstate on-ramps.

I would like to assure you that I have most definitely learned my lesson.  I understand now that the state of Missouri really and truly means it when they post No Parking signs.  No matter what I need, or no matter how short of a time, I will never again park my truck on a ramp in Missouri.

In closing, I would just like to reiterate my request for a reduction of this fine.  I am just a truck driver from Des Moines, IA trying to make a living and $203.00 for a parking ticket is nearly two day’s worth of wages to me.

Thank you for your time.
